What happens when you import a Toon Boom Studio animation set into Flash MX?

When you import a Toon Boom Studio™ animation set into Macromedia® Flash™ MX, TBSi:

  • Preserves all sound element layers, if you choose to import sound. (Importing into a movie only.)
  • Converts all unique Toon Boom Studio™ assets into symbols in the Macromedia® Flash™ MX Library. The symbols are organized according to their scene, element and file name.
  • Places all sounds and bitmaps in the root level of the symbol Library. TBSi also adds the scene name to the name of bitmaps.
  • Calculates the position, size and rotation of symbols derived from elements that are changed over time by pegs. (Importing into a movie only.)
  • Expands all Toon Boom Studio™ Media elements (links) into their individual symbols.
  • Calculates the value of color transform effects for each frame. You can see the color value of each symbol in the Properties panel, Color drop-list.
  • Calculates the visual result of clipping effects frame-by-frame. Clipping and mask layer symbols appear in the Library, as well as unique symbols for each frame, which represent the cumulative effect of the clipping and mask layers.

There are a couple of issues you should consider when importing your animations:

  • TBSi does not import the scene background color.
  • Macromedia® Flash™ MX does not display multiplicative color transform effects with a value greater than 1. If you want to create a multiplicative effect greater than 1, you must re-create the effect in Flash.
  • Macromedia® Flash™ MX does not import clipping effect elements that include other clipping effect elements.
